Summer in the Dove Valley and the Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is in full bloom. High Wheeldon hill rises on the other side of the River Dove, which is hidden in a dip in the landscape. An old field barn is caught in a beam of light spilling across a landscape of green fields edged with hedgerows, rather than stone walls.
