The River Wye tumbles chaotically over the man-made weir in Monsal Dale. Shallow waters spread over the limestone riverbed, while all around is thriving calcareous woodland, including Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and Hawthorn (Crataegus Monogyna) with some riverside species such as Alder (Alnus glutinosa) and Willow varieties.
