St. Michaels Mount, slow tide, September 2008
St. Michaels Mount dominates Mounts Bay, Marazion. A manmade causeway links it to the mainland at low tide. The Cornish name for this island, "Carrack Looz en Cooz" means the grey rock in the wood. The name is thought to refer to a time before the bay was flooded. Evidence of petrified stumps has been seen at low tide. The mount is home to a medieval castle with beautiful gardens.
